Vineyards established in 1640 already

The Ostrovrhar Wine Cellars, thriving in Zagrad above the Sopota Valley, have been documented since 1640. Despite the predominantly hilly terrain, there are favorable sites for grape cultivation, as the Ostrovrhar knights discovered long ago. Near the Svibno Castle, they planted the slopes with vines, and these vineyards have been preserved to this day.

The uniqueness of the Ostrovrhar's Vineyards lies in their location at the foot of Mount Kum, making them the northernmost region of the Dolenjska wine-growing area. Instead of the wild vines that once thrived in the noble estates, noble grape varieties now flourish here, and local winegrowers consistently achieve the highest scores and awards with their wines.

From Wine Cellar to Wine Cellar in June

A wine trail winds through the Ostrovrhar's Vineyards, managed by the Zagrad Winegrowers Section, established within the Ostrovrhar Tourist Society. Join us for the traditional "From Wine Cellar to Wine Cellar" hike, held every June, where you can enjoy a glass or two of exquisite wine while discovering the stories of the eight charming wine cellars (zidanica) nestled in the vineyards.
