The trailhead of the 5 km long circular trail is located in timber raft port at the confluence of the Sopota and Sava river.
The trail, which combines the interpretation of natural and cultural heritage in an innovative way and largely runs along the Sava River, symbolically bears the name of the ancient river deity - Savus.
Due to the completely flat terrain, the Savus educational trail is not demanding and is suitable for individual and group hikes, as well as for cyclists. You can take a ride along the trail with an electric bicycle, which you can rent at the Savus tourist information center at the starting point of the educational trail.
Stroll past the Savus recreational park and under the canopy of exotic trees of the Dvor park along one of the most beautiful and longest fishing trails in Europe. Try innovative didactic equipment and learn something new about the surrounding fauna and flora, or discover the trail with the help of the essential information on the information boards that accompany you along the way. The Savus educational trail continues into the Didactic circle by the pond, which, with information boards and didactic aids, enables getting to know the aquatic world and relaxing in nature.
We recommend taking the hike in the company of a local guide, who will introduce you to this unique area along the Sava.
You are also invited to the traditional Hike along the Savus educational trail, which takes place every June and is part of the Spring Posavje hiking festival of thematic trails.
The installation of the Savus 360° bench along the promenade at the TRC Savus in the timber raft port addresses the recognized need to upgrade the river area in Radeče with new attractions and content. The bench offers visitors the opportunity to comfortably enjoy the beautiful natural scenery that surrounds it.
Combining elements of design and woodwork in the production of this unique piece of urban equipment has brought an added value to the area that is difficult to measure. It is reflected mainly in the usability and increased attractiveness of the area, which is of key importance for both locals and visitors, led to our municipality by the desire for new experiences.
The bench was created as part of the Po-Savski rečni turizem project, co-financed by the European Union from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and the Republic of Slovenia within the Operational Program for the Implementation of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund in 2014-2020.
The bench is designed so that you can admire the surrounding views from all sides while sitting on it. At the same time, with its versatility, the bench reminds you of the natural shapes found on our Mother Earth at every step. The beginning of the bench represents the confluence of the Sopota and Sava rivers, its shape the flow of the Sava river, the gentle meandering between the Posavje hills, its pristine playfulness and the occasional wild nature. Attentive eyes, when looking at the bench, also find the outline of a fish and much more.
The Sava River has always significantly contributed to the development of communities on its banks. It used to be an important transport route for a variety of merchandise, but especially lively was the timber trade, which was transported from the Upper Savinja Valley by river rafts - flosi (derived from German, where das Floß stands for the timber raft) - all the way to the Black Sea. One of the main timber rafting ports on the Sava River was Radeče.
On a two-and-a-half-hour raft cruise, you will be able to listen to rafters' adventures and mishaps. What dangers threatened them along the way and with what mischievous habits they tried to ignore their daily troubles. Through storytelling, music and dance, you will get to experience how timber rafting looked like in the past.
You will also not leave the timber raft hungry, as you will be served a delicious rafters' goulash.
At the end, a real rafter's initiation awaits you. It is a humorous custom of accepting newbies among experienced flossers.
Welcome aboard Radeče timber raft!
The manor park, now declared a natural value of local importance, was built in the second half of the 19th century.
It is another exceptional natural feature hidden by the Sava river banks in Radeče. The beautiful park stretches around the Dvor manor and is designed in a typical English landscape style. The trees that adorn it were imported mainly from Trieste and the Ljubljana Botanical Garden.
The network of paths and trails, among which park trees are clustered or individually planted, runs all the way to the Sava river. Among the centuries-old exotic trees and shrubs in the middle of the park, a giant linden tree reigns. There are also yews, birches, mulberry trees, giant swamp cypresses, a beautiful weeping beech tree with sweeping, pendulous branches ... And one of the most beautiful trees you can find in the park is the weeping Japanese pagoda tree.
The Savus educational trail will lead you through Dvor Park as well.
A prior notice is mandatory at Radeče Correctional Home before visiting Park Dvor (especially for groups), as it is an area where movement is restricted. You can contact the Radeče Correctional Home at 03 565 83 00 or pd.radece@gov.si.
At the TIC Savus, it is possible to rent electric bicycles and ride through town, the surrounding area or along the interesting Savus educational path, which has its starting point at the TRC Savus building.
Number of e-bikes: 4
Radeče boasts one of the most beautiful and longest fishing trails in Europe. The 2 km long trail is intertwined with the Savus educational trail all the way to the end of the Hotemež field, where the Didactic Circle begins. A well-maintained trail for the disabled also enables vulnerable populations to safely engage in fishing.
Allow serenity, water, pure nature and the singing of birds in an idyllic ambience to take you away from the many worries of everyday life.
The fish life in the Sava river is varied, here you can find chubs, barbels, carps, common roach, pikes, catfish, common bleaks, perch and many others. A license is required for fishing. The purchase is possible at the PETROL petrol station (main road from Radeče to Sevnica), at the restaurant Strnad in Hotemež and at ribiskekarte.si.
A unique experience is fishing in the company of an experienced fisherman. Together you will prepare the fish and taste its richnessh on Sava river banks.
For the more experienced, the Radeče fishing trail offers recreational fishing and competitions organized by the Fishing Club Radeče. In its almost straight line, the trail provides equal conditions for all competitors and is one of the best trails for coarse angling competitions.
If you are not a fisherman yourself, we suggest taking a walk along the Savus educational trail and enjoying while just watching one of the fishing competitions.
• an outdoor classroom
• a trail with various points for relaxation or exploring
• suitable for school groups, individual and group hikes
• trail length: 760 m
• no major ascents (forest and macadam path)
In the area of the pond at the Hotemež field, the Savus educational trail continues with a newly established Didactic Circle. It is designed according to the concept of an outdoor classroom, and it contains various interpretation points.
Part of the Didactic Circle trail leads you along the already existing forest path, and part along the macadam path around the pond embankment. The trail has no major ascents and descents, it is located at an altitude of about 200 meters next to the Sava river, and measures 760 meters in length.
The once degraded area in its new form today enables an even deeper understanding of the many possibilities of area along the Sava river. The Didactic circle is equipped with nine interpretation points on the theme of fish, river ecosystem and water circle. On the way, there are relaxation and sensory points (wooden recliners, a tree observatory, a wooden book ...) that give you a unique feeling of the area.
At the confluence of the Sopota and Sava rivers, where guests board the timber raft, another Radeče attraction is hidden under the river pier.
There lies the first river cellar for sparkling wines in Slovenia. A cellar where several hundred bottles of sparkling wine mature for several months in the Sava river at a constant temperature. Valvasor Savus sparkling wine, a wine with all the qualities of youth and freshness, comes from the Mastnak&Frelih Winery.
The distinguishing mark of this sparkling wine undoubtedly comes from the Sava river debris, algae and river silt, which cling to every submerged bottle. Sparkling wines are offered on the market after maturing - most often as a business or protocol gift.
In December, join the traditional charity event Submersion of sparkling wine in the Sava river on the river banks in Radeče.
